Wood Plank Wall And Ceiling Trends
We have been noticing a growing number of our clients are requesting wood planks on more than just the floors. We are seeing our product/s get used on walls and ceilings as well. This latest design trend is welcome news for us, and we agree that it is a great way to warm up a space, bringing in a more natural feel.
Castle Bespoke is a great choice for walls/ceilings because the milling is so consistent, that it fits easily together, making installation very straightforward.
More Wood In The Office?
In addition to warming up the overall design, wood feels softer and more embracing. When we surround ourselves with elements from nature, it has a calming effect. This makes wood walls/ceilings a very attractive option in corporate spaces as well. Maybe your office wants to consider a wood wall to make the office feel more intimate and natural. These are important design decisions, as businesses try to tempt employees to give up the home office, and get back to the workplace. Here is an article from Harvard, discussing how to create a space that people want to come back to.

Wood Walls And Ceilings At Home
This concept of wood walls and ceilings isn’t limited to trendy, corporate spaces. Wood has shown up on walls and ceilings of our homes in past decades, and is now making a strong comeback. As we simplify, declutter, we can add some depth and natural texture by using wood walls/ceilings. Where we may have relied on art canvases or brightly painted feature walls in the past, now we can create a dramatic effect by a simple whitewashed plank on the ceiling.

Some great opportunities can be found in the recessed ceilings of the 1990s. Where the drywall in the dining room, or master bedroom steps in another 8” or 10”, this is a perfect spot to add wood planking. It highlights and modernizes the space with very minimal effort.
Why Should I Use A High-quality Engineered Floor, Couldn’t I Just Use Solid?
Solid planks are much more susceptible to warping/twisting, and the milling typically isn’t consistent enough for overhead work. Use Castle Bespoke outside corners for areas where the edge needs to be finished with a trim.
I Love It, How Do I Do It?
Installing wood flooring on walls or ceilings is similar to installing on the floor, but not exactly the same. You need to find out where the studs are in the wall (framing), and clearly mark those places on the face of the drywall of the wall or ceiling that you wish to install wood on. Put a squiggle of adhesive on the back of every plank, and then once you have tapped the plank into place, use a small nailer/pinner to blindnail just above the tongue of the plank, taking care that you also nail into the stud or ceiling joist framing. Add more fasteners approx. every 10”. We recommend that this work is done by a professional for best results.
